Building & Gardens

Many changes have taken place at Stonebridge since we came here in 2006; perhaps the most important, in terms of the living space, was the creation of 3 separate lounge areas, Iris, Flora and Freya House, and the gardens which wrap around the building and are freely accessible from all lounges.

The challenge of care home living is facing the preconception that hotel style accommodation is desirable above all else; we have no interest in meeting the needs of anyone but the people who live here, and people with dementia must be free to rummage, explore, move, and yes, that sometimes means things get broken, or need redecorating!
We want our Home to be welcoming & friendly, and meaningful to the people who live with us.

Iris

A smaller space for people living with mixed diagnoses, but sharing a need for a less active, less stressful environment.

Flora

A larger space for people with moderate to advanced dementia, living in an altered reality. Busy, active, full of stimulus.

Freya

A small unit where the emphasis is on doing more in the community – shopping, day trips, swimming, eating out, the theatre etc
